I’m teaching my Spring Yosemite Digital Camera workshop this week, but wanted to post a quick note to let you know that the dogwoods have suddenly popped out in Yosemite Valley. On Saturday I saw only a few green discs, but yesterday dozens of trees were in full bloom, and it seems like more are emerging every hour. The dogwoods are most photogenic when they first blossom, before too many leaves obscure the flowers, so the next week or so should be the best for photography, though the dogwoods will continue to bloom for a couple of weeks beyond that.

This seems early…of course, everything this year is early. At my visit in June last year there were Dogwoods in bloom all over. Can’t wait for your workshop in October!!
Denise, this is actually the typical time for the dogwood to begin blooming – right around the end of April. Last year they were quite late. I’m looking forward to seeing you in October as well!
Thanks so much for the info. The dogwoods around Sonora are in full bloom, with lots of leaves already showing. We were wondering what the Yosemite conditions were like.
I also wanted to thank you for your great Lightroom 4 tutorials. Those sliders could really come in handy on the white dogwood blooms.

First, I echo Kevin’s comments about your LR4 tutorials. First rate.
We have reservations in Yosemite for the second week of May, so looks like our timing could be pretty good. Any suggestions as to where to go to get some nice blooms alongside the river? I can never seem to get what I envision in my head, but maybe it is the timing, too. Best I have done is behind the stables in the campground along the river, but I know there are better places.

Thanks Aram. The best bet for dogwoods along the river is the west end of the valley, near Gates of the Valley and Pohono Bridge.
OOPs. I also forgot to mention that I will finally get a chance to use your app for my i-pod. It looks like a great tool, and have been playing with it and watched your video about it. Now it is time to put it to use. I think there is a full moon the second week of May, so might even try a moonbow.
