The Creative Spark: Making Art with Your iPhone
Information
January 31st – February 2nd, 2020
Where does the workshop take place?
We’ll be using a meeting room at the Hofsas House Hotel in Carmel, California, and venturing into the nearby town and beautiful surrounding area for our field sessions.
When does the workshop begin and end?
The workshop starts at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, and ends at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. We’ll go from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday, with an optional field session on Friday evening. On Sunday we start at 9:00 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m.
Transportation
Participants must provide their own transportation to and from Carmel. During the workshop we’ll walk to some field locations, and may also carpool to other spots.
Equipment
You’ll need a relatively recent iPhone with enough free storage space to capture a bunch of photos. We suggest that you come equipped with a single- or dual-lens version of the iPhone 7, 8, or XS, a dual-lens X, or a single-lens XR, or any of the phones introduced in the Fall of 2019. Earlier model iPhones may not be able to take advantage of everything we discuss in the workshop. The single-lens models lack several useful features found in the dual-lens versions, but are capable of virtually everything else we’ll cover. We’ll be working with as many as twenty third-party apps, which you will need to purchase and download. You’ll need an Apple App Store account in order to download the apps, and should budget about $25-30 for their purchase. We’ll send you a complete list of things to bring before the workshop.
Experience
Any level of iPhone experience is welcome in this workshop. Some basic knowledge of photography and composition is helpful.
Lodging
We’ve reserved a block of rooms at a discounted rate at the Hofsas House Hotel in Carmel for this workshop. We’ll send you more information about your lodging options when you register. Lodging is not included in the workshop tuition.
Meals
The Hofsas House Hotel provides a continental breakfast to its guests. Other meals are not included in the workshop tuition.
Hiking
There’s no real hiking in this workshop, but we will be walking in and around Carmel, and it’s a hilly town. The Hofsas House Hotel is located on a steep hill, and is three stories high, with no elevators, so you may need to negotiate stairs in order to reach the meeting space or access your hotel room.
Cancellation
We know you’ll enjoy this workshop and learn a great deal, but should you need to cancel for any reason we will refund your tuition in full up to 60 days prior to the start of the workshop. Should you need to cancel within 45 to 59 days we will refund your tuition less a $150.00 cancellation fee. Refunds are not available less than 45 days prior to the workshop unless we can fill the vacancy, in which case you’ll be charged a $150 cancellation fee. If you do need to cancel we ask that you let us know as soon as possible so we can alert people on the waiting list.
In the rare event that we need to cancel this workshop due to lack of enrollment or an unforeseen event you will receive a complete refund or credit toward a future workshop. We recommend that you avoid purchasing non-refundable airline tickets, and consider getting trip cancellation insurance.
