Full Moon Night Photography Workshop
• July 31 - August 1, 2012
• Yosemite National Park
• Focus: Field and Classroom
• Level: Intermediate to Advanced
• Maximum 10 Participants
• Tuition: $600
Yosemite is a magical place at night, especially under a full moon. This workshop will teach you the essential skills needed to capture this ethereal beauty with your digital camera. You'll learn how to get correct exposures in the dark, how to reduce the noise often generated by long exposures, what kind of subjects work best at night, and how to add intrigue and interest by using flashlights or flash to light objects in the dark.
The workshop is based in Yosemite Valley. We’ll spend two nights photographing under a full moon in the Yosemite high country, one at Sentinel Dome, the other at Olmsted Point. Afternoon classroom sessions will cover equipment and techniques for nighttime photography, post-processing using Photoshop and Lightroom, and, on the second day, reviews of photographs made the night before.
Participants will need a digital SLR camera, sturdy tripod, and locking cable or electronic release. You must also be in decent physical condition, as this workshop requires a short but steep hike at high elevation.

I started offering private workshops through the Ansel Adams Gallery in Yosemite about six years ago, and they've become very popular. People like the opportunity to take a class tailored to their specific skill level, interests, and schedule. Individual attention also really accelerates the learning curve: students seem to learn as much during a day of one-on-one instruction as they do in two or three days of a group workshop.
