The Ansel Adams Gallery is sponsoring a special print sale of two of my images at 25% off the normal price. The two images we selected for this offer are Half Dome, Sunbeams, and the Merced River, and Trees and Mist Beneath Bridalveil Fall. These are two recent photographs that have never been exhibited before.
My signed, limited-edition 16×20 prints usually sell for $325, but during this sale you can get one for only $244. Or you can purchase a 20×24 print, normally $475, for only $356. This is only the second time I’ve ever offered a discount on any of my prints, so this is a rare chance to purchase one of my photographs at a reduced price. This morning dawned cloudy, but soon the sun started to break through. An overnight rainstorm had added new moisture on top of cold snow, a combination that generated copious quantities of mist and fog. I was teaching a workshop, so when the sun started to appear I took the group to this spot along the Merced River, where I knew we would have a chance of seeing backlit mist, and sunbeams radiating through fog. We weren’t disappointed.
I placed the sun behind a tree to avoid lens flare, a placement which revealed a faint circular rainbow in the mist around the sun (called a corona,) and the radiating sunbeams. Just another magical moment in Yosemite!

I made this photograph after a series of warm, wet storms soaked Yosemite Valley in early December, dropping seven inches of rain over five days. Waterfalls that had been barely flowing for months suddenly revived, and briefly reached springtime levels.
After rising early and photographing a rainbow on Upper Yosemite Fall, then capturing mist rising from trees in El Capitan Meadow, I passed this scene, with beautiful backlight on the oaks and pines underneath Bridalveil Fall. I set up my camera and captured a series of frames as the mist rose from the trees in varying configurations.
