The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Yosemite from 4 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday. The snow level is projected to begin at around 5000 feet Friday afternoon, but drop to 4000 feet—the elevation of Yosemite Valley—Friday night. Exact snow levels are difficult to forecast, so a slight fluctuation could mean rain instead of snow, but it seems likely that the Valley will get at least a dusting. Forecasters are predicting two to four inches of snow at 4000 feet, four to eight inches above 5000 feet.
For photographers, the big question is when the storm will clear. It looks like it might clear sometime during Friday night, meaning Saturday morning could be beautiful. Or not. It’s always unpredictable! But whenever it clears there will probably be great conditions for photography.
yosemite bob told me that the worst weather is the best – i have to agree. but to me any weather is yosemite is fantastic. are you heading up to yosemite for post storm photo ops?
I agree with Bob too. I'll be heading up tomorrow if the conditions look promising. The forecasters don't seem to be as certain about the amount of snow today- it's possible we could get only 1/10th of an inch of precipitation.
Nothing but wind and clouds over here on the east side. Sounds like the storm is staying more to the north.
Thanks for keeping us posted Michael I was planning on getting out there pretty soon the first few snows are great. I also replied back to a few comments you left on the flickr page, I would say the best way to connect would be through my blog as I only use flickr for hosting images. Thank you for the positive feedback. Anyway hope to hear the updates soon would love to know more about the photo conditions.
